02 Why: the two sides

Wood furniture and floors

Finished wood is protected by a film (polyurethane, lacquer, varnish or shellac) and it is the finish, not the wood, that most cleaners touch first.

Hydrogen peroxide 3%

The 3% solution sold in brown bottles at pharmacies. A mild oxidising bleach. pH 4–5.

It can bleach dyes, so test colours first.

05 What the wood furniture and floors files use most

Across the 45 stain files for a wood table, these are the products the methods rely on most; hydrogen peroxide is not among the top five.

06 More about hydrogen peroxide

Oxidisers break the chemical bonds that make many stains coloured, so the stain stops absorbing light even if some residue remains. They work on tannins, dyes and plant pigments, not on grease or mineral particles.

On an ingredient list, hydrogen peroxide shows up as hydrogen peroxide (also in many "oxy" sprays).

  • It can bleach dyes, so test colours first.
  • Do not mix with vinegar, chlorine bleach or other cleaning products. The vinegar restriction is not limited to closed containers.

Never mix it with chlorine bleach, white vinegar and acetone. Why.

07 Already used it?

Wipe it off and dry at once. A cloudy or sticky patch means the finish has softened; leave it to cure fully for a day before judging. It may need polishing or local refinishing.

08 Questions

Is diluted hydrogen peroxide safe on a wood table?

Diluted is less risky, but the problem is the chemistry, not the strength: it can lighten wood and soften some finishes.

What should I use on a wood table instead of hydrogen peroxide?

Use the method in the stain file for the specific stain: on wood table the right product depends more on the stain than on habit.

Can I mix hydrogen peroxide with other cleaners on a wood table?

Do not combine cleaners unless the exact product manufacturers explicitly direct that use. This ingredient-level file cannot establish compatibility of commercial formulas. Rinsing alone does not prove that later use of a different cleaner is safe, especially on porous materials.

Does hydrogen peroxide remove stains from a wood table?

None of the 45 files for wood table uses it. Absence from the model does not establish either effectiveness or safety.

How long can hydrogen peroxide stay on a wood table?

Do not use it as a routine home treatment on this material. For accidental contact, follow the product and item instructions and obtain advice if needed.
