How to get super glue out of a wood table
Let it harden, then lift; scrape off the excess. Never acetone or pulling. A tough one on a wood table: expect more than one round.

01 The short answer
To get super glue out of a wood table, work in this order: (1) let it harden, then lift; (2) scrape off the excess. On a wood table, skip acetone or nail polish remover: acetone dissolves lacquer and many other finishes. For fully cured, cool adhesive only.
This has a higher editorial difficulty rating. Consider professional cleaning rather than stronger or repeated home treatments.
02 Never do this
- Acetone or nail polish remover. Acetone dissolves lacquer and many other finishes.
- Pulling it off. Cured glue can take fibres (or skin) with it.
- Rubbing or scrubbing. It spreads the stain and grinds it deeper; blot instead.
- Leaving liquid to stand. Moisture that sits on a finish turns into a white ring, then a black one.
03 Before you start
- Use white cloths or paper towels only: coloured ones can transfer their own dye into a wood table.
- Identify the finish before treatment. Ring colour is only a clue, not a reliable diagnosis of damage depth.
- Pretest every permitted treatment on an inconspicuous area, including trims, and let it dry. Stop for colour transfer, lightening, rings, stiffness or distortion. A successful spot test does not guarantee the whole item is safe.
04 The method
Let it harden, then lift
Let the super glue harden fully, then lift it with a plastic scraper or fingernail, working in from the edge. Any thin film left can be softened with a hair dryer on low and peeled.
Why it works: On this surface the solvent that dissolves it would also dissolve the surface.

Scrape off the excess
For fully cured, cool adhesive only. Do not wipe uncured super glue with cotton, wool or paper; stop garment treatment if it is hot, smoking or bonded to skin. Lift any thick or raised blobs with a spoon or the dull edge of a knife, scooping towards the centre. Do not press down: you want it off the wood table, not into it.
Why it works: Every bit of solid removed now is pigment and fat that never soaks in.

Dry and polish
For fully cured, cool adhesive only. Do not wipe uncured super glue with cotton, wool or paper; stop garment treatment if it is hot, smoking or bonded to skin. Dry thoroughly and, once completely dry, buff with furniture polish or wax if the area looks dull.
Why it works: Moisture left on a finish turns into a white ring.

05 Dried, set, or back again?
This has a higher editorial difficulty rating. Consider professional cleaning rather than stronger or repeated home treatments.
Assess the mark only once the item has dried according to its care instructions. If it remains, do not keep repeating or strengthening treatment; obtain advice for the exact material and product.
06 What super glue is made of
- Polymer
Super glue is a polymer: long molecules that set into a film or a sticky mass. Each one needs either its own solvent or a change of state, freezing or softening, rather than scrubbing.
- Super glue (cyanoacrylate) cures by reacting with moisture, including the water in the air and on fabric, which is why it grabs cotton so fast.
- A large drop on cotton can get hot enough to burn: the reaction with cotton fibres releases heat.
- Acetone dissolves cured super glue, but it also dissolves acetate fabrics, plastics and wood finishes.
07 The material: wood furniture and floors
No soaking, so each treatment is applied, given a few minutes, and blotted away.
Water stays at or below 30 °C (86 °F) the whole way through.
What this file leaves out because of the material:
- Acetone or nail polish remover. Acetone dissolves lacquer and many other finishes.
- White rings are moisture trapped in the finish and usually come out with gentle heat; black rings mean water reached the wood itself and reacted with its tannins.
- Shellac and some lacquers dissolve in alcohol, which is why a spilled cocktail can leave a cloudy, sticky patch on old furniture.
The wood furniture and floors file rates every common cleaner for it.
08 Next time
Use super glue according to its label, on a protected surface away from fabric. Keep uncured glue away from cotton, wool and paper because rapid curing can release enough heat to burn.
09 Questions
Can I use hot water on super glue on a wood table?
Keep it cool: wood table itself does not tolerate water above about 30 °C (86 °F), whatever the stain.
Does vinegar help with super glue on a wood table?
It is not needed for super glue. Vinegar is a mild acid that helps with tannin and mineral residue; super glue responds better to the steps above.
Can I use bleach on super glue?
Not chlorine bleach on wood table: it bleaches wood and can damage the finish.
Will super glue come out of a wood table completely?
This has a higher editorial difficulty rating. Consider professional cleaning rather than stronger or repeated home treatments.
When should I call a professional?
Black water or urine stains that have gone into the wood, antiques, and French-polished (shellac) furniture.
